Strauss - "At the Summit" from Eine Alpensinfonie

Eine Alpensinfonie is the last of the many tone poems that Richard Strauss composed.  Written over a period of several years, it was premiered on October 28, 1915, with Strauss himself conducting the orchestra of the Dresden Hofkapelle in Berlin.  After the premiere, Strauss commented, "At last I have learned to orchestrate."  The excerpt from the nearly hour-long piece was premiered by the US Navy Band, Washington, DC in December of 2010, and recorded on the Navy Band's 2011 CD, Derivations.
